Website Reviews for Agencies: Build a Useful Client Handoff

A practical agency workflow for separating launch defects, client decisions, and future improvements, with an example of how to present findings without overselling the evidence.

Agree what the client is accepting

An agency website review should help the client understand what is ready, what needs a decision, and what remains outside the engagement. Agree on the pages, devices, content responsibilities, and acceptance conditions before collecting findings. Otherwise, a report can become an unplanned redesign brief.

Consider a fictional logistics company launching a service website. The agency owns page implementation, while the client owns service-area information and delivery claims. A missing region in a coverage table needs a client answer; a table clipped on a phone needs an implementation change. Treating both as generic design feedback conceals who can resolve them.

Separate defects from additional work

Compare a finding with the agreed deliverable. An enquiry button that opens the wrong destination is a defect to resolve. A suggestion to build a shipment calculator is a new capability to discuss. Both may be useful, but they need different decisions and should not silently share the same acceptance status.

Keep the original observation beside the proposed response. If the client prefers an alternative implementation, the team can assess whether it still addresses the concern instead of debating which reviewer’s mockup to follow.

Present evidence the client can understand

For each selected finding, show the affected page or region, explain the consequence in ordinary language, and identify the next decision. Avoid presenting a summary score as proof of accessibility conformance or a forecast of additional enquiries.

A useful handoff entry might say: “On the regional services page, the enquiry link leads to the general contact form without identifying the region. Decision needed: preselect the region or add a region field.” The client can evaluate that proposal without interpreting a long technical report.

Use the platform within the agency service

Design Audit can provide AI-assisted findings and captured evidence for reachable public pages. Agencies can use that material while preparing a client review, then add contractual scope, brand context, and manual interaction checks. The platform supplies evaluation inputs; the agency remains responsible for its advice.

Close the handoff with accepted changes, client decisions, and deferred work. Record who will maintain content after launch. A short list of unresolved ownership questions is more useful than a polished report that implies everything has been covered.

Review checklist

  • Agree pages, responsibilities, and acceptance conditions.
  • Separate implementation defects from proposed new scope.
  • Make client decisions visible beside the relevant evidence.
  • Assign post-launch content ownership.
